Work began Monday on resurfacing portions of 71st Street between Stony Island Ave and South Shore Dr with 200 WPA laborers removing asphalt for a new surface at an estimated cost of 31 124 dollars. The project includes 12 412 square yards of resurfacing and 650 feet of curb replacements, with traffic routed to the north side during south side work.

Mrs. Jennie Borenstin aged 65 of 7712 Phillips Ave died after a fall from a second story porch. An inquest returned an accidental death verdict. She was buried in Oak Wood Cemetery after funeral services at a local chapel.

Rites Held for Veteran Lawyer Charles H Callaghan
Charles H Callaghan a longtime Chicago lawyer and judge died last Saturday at home. He served four terms as police magistrate in South Chicago and Hyde Park and was among the last justices of peace in Chicago. He lived in the Southeast community since 1867 and worked in law, real estate, and publishing. Survived by widow Anna two daughters Sister St Charles and May and two sons Bernard and James EB.
