Kiwanis clubs on Chicago's Southeast side plan a Friday Peanut Day sale. They aim to move about 47 000 bags of peanuts for over 12 000 dollars to aid crippled and underprivileged children. Funds support Twin Lakes Camp and local charity programs run by Hyde Park, Southeast Area, and South Chicago clubs.
The First Universalist Church at 910 E 83rd St holds a 11 a.m. Sunday dedication of a new symbol a circle enclosing a cross shifted off center to honor science and other religions. Rev. Advocates of a lakeside municipal convention hall won a partial victory when Chicago's share of race track receipts may be used to finance the project. Chicago Park District officials said they will refuse a renewal of the five year lease to the Army anti aircraft command occupying lake front sites. They granted 60 day extension at $1 per year and demand funds to create 20 acres of public recreation land. Army uprooted trees and caused erosion. Park Board President James H. Gately criticized the Army as having done a bad job of housekeeping. Condemnation proceedings in Federal court may follow.
Charles Garttrell, 39, of 1133 E 55th St, was fatally injured while driving a garbage truck at 3300 S Cicero Ave Monday. He was hurled from the truck when the trash loader raised suddenly as he drove under a viaduct.
