Funeral set for George E. Johnson famed Prohibition lawyer
Funeral services for George E. Johnson 75 will be held at Bryn Mawr Community Church 7000 Teffery Ave at 2 p.m. He helped organize the church for over 25 years and was Chicago U S district attorney who secured Capone convictions. Johnson died of a brain hemorrhage at home Monday night. He will be buried in Oak Woods Cemetery. He founded the South Shore YMCA and served on its boards, chaired the first YMCA board in 1932, and later joined the YMCA advisory board. He was active in civic groups including Masons Union League Commercial Club Swedish Club and South Shore Country Club. Born in Harlan Iowa he graduated from Tobin College 1897 and Chicago College of Law 1900. Survived by widow Elizabeth married 1906 and son George E Q Johnson Jr., an attorney.
