David Quinn aged 84 of 5606 Kenwood Ave and eight month old Fred John Robinson son of Mr and Mrs Fred Robinson Jr of 1504 E 65th St are noted as the oldest and youngest flyers. Quinn, a retired musician who played for grand opera for 35 years, flew to Minneapolis to see his new great grandchild and back. Baby Robinson will fly for the first time this weekend to Fleetwood North Carolina with his parents.
The newly organized Jackson Park Lens Club will hold an 8 p.m. meeting at the 55th street promontory in Jackson Park. Andrew Tait will present lighting demonstrations and photography of actual models. The public is invited.
In the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Schneider a burglar entered through a bedroom window while Mrs. Schneider chatted with friends. The thief tied a bedroom door with a necktie and stole a gold ring three dollars in old bills and four old fifty cent pieces. Mr. Schneider found the break in at 11 pm.
The Grand Crossing Chatham Chamber of Commerce nominates Raymond F. Norton for president and presents a full slate for officers and directors. The first October meeting on October 16 will vote on the slate, with room for additional nominations by petition before October 1.
Chicago Boys' Club and Woodlawn Business Men's Association anticipate permission from Police Commissioner James P. Altman to use the vacant second floor of the Woodlawn police station at 6344 Harper Ave for a recreation center. A partition may separate the station’s squad area from the new facility to keep youths from police operations.
Otto Wallschlaeger age 15 of 6630 Drexel Avenue is recovering with a fractured skull and facial and knee injuries after his bicycle was struck by Edward Brown age 32 of 6150 Greenwood Avenue last Friday morning in Woodlawn. The bike had emerged from behind a parked truck in front of 1017 East 65th Street. The collision threw Wallschlaeger to the pavement.
Alderman Thomas J. Daley of the Seventh ward asserts a shortage of South Side sewers and cites city engineers and municipal experts promising basements streets and viaduct floods will lessen as the Southeast sewer extension rushes toward completion before cold weather.
At a Woodlawn Business Men's association luncheon in the Hayes hotel a fund raising committee was formed to back a civic center with an auditorium classrooms gymnasiums and play rooms. The goal is 100000 for construction with James M. Earle presiding and Mrs Paull Pierson among the appointed members.
George Bacos a 15 year old from Southeast community suffered a fractured ankle after a football tumble in a vacant lot at 6101 Michigan Ave. He turned his ankle while racing with the ball and was treated by a private physician. He is recovering at home.
A week of gala events in the Eighth Ward Fall festival opens Sunday and ends the following Saturday. The parade Wednesday night will feature 10 000 participants including 5000 ex service members, drum and bugle corps, decorated floats, and naval reserve officers amid fire apparatus and police contingents.
The Eighth Ward Fall festival runs Sunday to a week from tomorrow offering daily programs. Highlights include arts and crafts at Grand Crossing park field house, a football game at Tuley park, amateur show, Stars and Stripes night, Americanism program, naturalization ceremonies, parades, and a community piano and dance program across several venues.
A petition drive to inaugurate angle parking on Main Street in the South Shore business district began yesterday. The initiative was organized by a committee of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce following a luncheon at the South Side Swedish club on Ridgeland avenue where members voiced support and concerns.
