Ruth Crandall, 62, died of a heart attack while preparing a luncheon for her parents Mr. and Mrs. Isaac W. Cranmer at their home. The Cranmers, aged 88 and 93, witnessed the tragedy. Funeral services were held at 316 W. 63rd St. Burial followed at Mt. Greenwood cemetery. Surviving: two daughters Marion and Ruth L. Reveal Radar Secrets At Western Electric Plant II
During the war enemy forces reportedly controlled radar equipment made at Western Electric Hawthorne works in Cicero. Radar units tested in the plant focused at the Cicero airport and Southside buildings while ships on Lake Michigan also served as targets.
