The board meets today at 2 p m in the Wyllys T Miller office. The first Fall meeting is next Monday at Stevensons hall with officer elections in October.
Sylvester Blozak of 8715 Colfax and Anthony Kaczmarek of 8626 Manistee were each fined 200 dollars and costs by Judge Cecil Smith in South Chicago on a disorderly conduct charge arising from a report by Ray Sandberg, a sailor from Bemidji, Minnesota, alleging an attempted assault in Bessemer park. Unable to pay, both men were sent to Bridewell to work off the fines.
A preview of the 83rd street bus line set for next week will feature a ribbon cutting with Mayor Kelly and other officials. Alderman Daley sponsors a candid camera contest for amateur photographers with cash prizes up to ten dollars for the best pictures of the ceremony and progress.
Grand Crossing post No. 438 American Legion and its unit will hold a joint installation of officers Saturday at 8:30 pm at post headquarters 7435 Cottage Grove Ave. George W Krueger becomes commander, with Thomas J Bygerling Leroy Hartwick J W Mc Govern Herman Lappe Theodore Jordan Otto Brigel and Robert Roberts among new officers. Unit president is Mrs. Charles Abberger with retiring president Mrs. Helen Everling and other officers listed. Installing officers include Joseph P Murphy Bryan M Custer Mrs Gertrude Hoffman and Mrs Eva Christensen.
Edward John Van Reeth, longtime Southeast side settler and builder of one of South Shore’s first homes, died Sunday at his daughter’s residence. He was 81. A Belgian native, he worked 45 years in Armour and Company’s foreign department before retiring. The three story frame house at 7448 South Shore still stands, where his family of seven children grew up. He came to the United States in the late 19th century and married Olava Wang of Norway in Chicago.
Rosh Hashonah, the Jewish New Year, begins next Wednesday evening at sunset with observances by Southeast side Jews and worldwide. The ten day penitential period ends with Yom Kippur on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23, featuring Shofar blowing and special prayers. Rosh Hashanah services are listed for the South Side Hebrew congregation, Congregation Am Echod, and the South Shore temple with multiple times and leaders noted.
Republicans of the 8th ward plan an all day outing at Gleneagles Country Club with a two course golf tournament and more than 100 prizes. Dinner at 7 pm features entertainment and music with Michael J Connellly master of ceremonies and Ald Roy E Olin heading the ticket committee.

Carlo Falcone is found sane by a Cook County jury after a sanity hearing and will face trial tomorrow for the slaying of Robert Hall. The nine women and three men jury, first with women serving in the county’s criminal court, heard testimony from Capt. Dan Gilbert and Dr. Harry Hoffman.
The Woodlawn Junior Chamber of Commerce will hold its first Fall meeting at Hotel Hayes tomorrow evening with dinner at 6 30 and the meeting at 7 30. The nominating committee headed by Carl Hillmeyer will present a new slate of officers and floor nominations are allowed. Plans for the coming year will be discussed.
