Two Southeast Side Men Killed in War Zones
The Purple Heart was awarded posthumously to Pvt. Karl A Nelson 22 who died May 23 on Oxnawa and Lt Robert T Brassell 21 who died April 24 in Germany. Nelson was from 8427 Luella and Brassell from 1545 E Marquette Rd. Both served with the 105th infantry cannon Division. Nelson had 15 months overseas after two and a half years in the service. He attended Bowen high school and worked as a Spiegel sales clerk prior to enlistment. Brassell earned his wings at Camp Lubbock and completed more than 45 missions as B 26 co pilot. He was Hyde Park high school graduate and a former packing company clerk.
