Manor Girl Scout Troops Face Disbanding Without Volunteers
Three Manor district intermediate Girl Scout troops may be disbanded immediately if leaders are not recruited. Neighborhood chairman Mrs. Claire Yale cites 40 to 50 girls at risk plus 36 Brownies denied promotion and 60 to 65 on a waiting list. A training course starts September 20 at Avalon Park Church to prepare volunteers, with six leaders needed across the three troops.

Ten Year Old Scout Refuses Reward for Bicycle Rescue
Donald Kahn a member of Den 6 Pack 3797 will be cited Tuesday for turning down a reward after helping recover a stolen bicycle. Mrs Anne Markle credited his quick thinking in leading authorities to the thief and the recovered bicycle abandoned at Sears Roebuck parking lot. The ceremony at Congregation Rocfei Sholom will honor his act with a special Scouting award presented by Cub master Adolph Callner.

Hearing Set On Removal Of South Chicago Rail Ticket Agency
Illinois Commerce Commission will hear Friday on New York Central Railroad request to remove its ticket agency at the South Chicago depot. The hearing was moved to September 6 to allow a fuller fact driven presentation on station usage and the impact of closing the ground level agent. If approved tickets would be sold at LaSalle Street or on trains while the street level depot closes. train service remains unchanged and the waiting room stays open.

Ward Alderman Urges Citywide No Parking For Street Cleaning

New Fishing Lakes Planned in Southeast Area
Good news for anglers in the Southeast area as two artificial lakes are under construction to be stocked with pan fish. A 17 acre lake is being built in Beaubien Woods near 138th Street and the Calumet Expressway, while a 28 acre lake named Wampum Lake will lie in Thorn Creek Woods west of the Expressway. Wampum has been excavated and earth used for expressway fill. Neither lake is yet ready for fishing, but Wampum is expected to be usable by next summer for fishermen and picnickers.

Molester Held on $10,000 Bond in Kidnapping Case
James Clarkson reports Donald Roy Coffman, 33, of 5514 Blackstone Ave, held to grand jury on $10,000 bond for kidnapping a 10 year old girl from Palos forest preserve. The victim, Patricia Powers, was recovered after officers traced Coffman to 5514 Blackstone Ave. He denied bullets and confessed only to attempted self harm when confronted. Further investigations connected Coffman to other murders.
