South Chicago residents voiced opinions on funding the Chicago Transit Authority. Respondents ranged from housewives to a printer and a salesman, many arguing CTA mismanagement or sufficiency of taxes, with few favoring additional real estate or gas taxes.

Dora Shugan Memorial Group of United Cerebral Palsy will sponsor a Night of Sports at Sportsman's Park on Tuesday June 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs Edward Bogetz of 9667 S Van Whissingea rd is chairman and said proceeds go to the cerebral palsy fund. Mrs James Schultz of 7714 S Kingston Ave is president.
Russell Square residents convene a 7:30 p.m. mass meeting at the park field house for a vote on joining the South Chicago conservation area. Alderman Pacini and Back of the Yards Council speakers are invited to discuss implications and neighborhood cleanup plans. If the vote favors inclusion, the alderman will be asked to reinstate Russell Square in the area.
National Council of Jewish Women Chicago section urges Mayor Daley to hire an independent management consultant firm to study patrol methods civil service staffing and efficiency for the police department. A Mayors Advisory Committee on Personal Safety is proposed to discuss the plan with a report due for the 1961 budget.
The Essex Park Manor district Girl Scouts plan a June 3 cookout and investiture at the Point on E 53rd Street by the Lake. Committee members include Leona Aiello Lenore Fleming Penny Fuller Eleanor Chouinard and Heathie Wallace. New leaders to be invested are Dolores McCree Mrs Helen Rush Mrs Laurel Weathers Mrs Pat Cavenagh and Mrs Elenore Austin. Additional investitures include Eleanor Chouinard Alice Coleman Kathryn Hall Marilyn Harang Vivian Konkel and Christine Boeckhouse.
Mercury vapor street lamps were installed on Southeast residential streets per Mayor Daley's information office. Locations include 95th to 99th streets Michgan to South Park avenues with 79 lamps costing about 52000, 83rd to 87th streets Yates boulevard to Burnham avenue with 138 lamps costing about 90000, and north of 83rd street Burley to Mackinaw avenues with 6 lamps costing about 4000.

Anita Klucker 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Klucker, and resident of 13300 S Baltimore Ave, was chosen as Illini Girls' State candidate funded by the Fred Schweitzer unit 272 American Legion auxiliary. A George Washington High junior, she is active in civic groups and holds a top third class rank.

Six Southeast Chicago aldermen led by Ald. Despres introduced a council resolution urging Congress to create a national park in the Indiana dunes east of Gary. The measure backs federal park expansion to preserve the duneland facing harbor development, with sponsor Rep. O’Hara praising the dunes’ flora and public appeal.
A Hyde Park High School teacher, 38, Ms Bernice G Cohen, was awarded 4050 dollars for injuries from a May 15 fall in a school corridor. Negotiated by attorney Frank R Schneberger, the settlement cites 35 percent impairment of the right arm and knee disability.
Cadet Sgt Edward A Rund of 6838 S Cornell Ave and Cadet Lt James E Abbott of 7655 S Coles Ave received honors at Morgan Park Military Academy. Rund earned the Superior Junior Cadet ribbon and Abbott received the Sons of the American Revolution ROTC award at the annual decorations ceremony held May 25.
