Jackson Park Camera Club Wins Photo Salon Trophy

The Jackson Park Camera Club won the third annual salon among 35 Chicago area clubs with 17 prints from 16 members accepted of 121 total. Edmund H. Coy won first in amateur class and Harry L. Howe received an honorable mention. Edward Restel earned an additional honorable mention in advanced class. The club will receive a gold trophy at the association banquet and the exhibition runs at Marshall Field's before touring the U.S.

$50 000 Program Aims to Ease Chicago Pedestrian Hazards

Chicago will spend $50 000 to channelize 18 Southeast side intersections and reduce crashes at 45 busy crossings. Commissioner Butler says work starts in six weeks, funded from motor fuel tax and endorsed by State officials. Funeral Rites Held for Southeast Side Architect Edward G McClellan

Edward G McClellan a well known Southeast side architect died last Wednesday at 48 after a heart attack linked to a blood infection Funeral services were at Immanuel Evangelical church and he was buried Saturday at Oak Woods Cemetery He was a Kiwanis member and former president and secretary Surviving are his widow his mother Mrs Louise McClellan and five daughters Lois Marjorie Winona Barbara and Elaine.

Chief of Park Police to Be Guest of Chamber

Robert Shanahan, newly appointed chief of the Chicago Park district police, will be guest of honor at the South Shore Chamber of Commerce luncheon in the South Side Swedish club at 12 14. A World War II veteran with a noted Navy record, he previously led the West Park District police before joining the parks force. After lunch a motion picture titled It's Up to You will be shown. Fire Reveals Illegal Still. Bond Set at 1000

Fire at 8415 Oglesby Ave exposed an illegal still in a bungalow and led to the arrest of Stanley Opyt. He faced a federal charge of operating an illegal still and was released on a $1000 bond. The "recooker" still sparked a 4:40 a.m. blast and a basement-to-first-floor blaze that caused about $1000 in damage. Mrs Opyt was questioned as investigators from the alcohol tax unit continued the probe.

Safe-Crackers Loot Four South Side Stores

A band of burglars forced entry into four South Side businesses early yesterday. John P. Quigley real estate on 2221 FE Ust St yielded $244.25. John E. Murlough real estate at 7103 Stony Island Ave took $100 to $200. Pred J. Rogers at 2109 EB Tist St had the safe knocked but loot was not taken. Shore Quality Market at 2111 E ist St netted $15.63 from the register.

Building Census Starts in Woodlawn Project

Woodlawn plans a home grown census of 50 buildings, not people, to assess design, construction, equipment, and age. Field teams photograph, map, and measure to represent 70 to 80 percent of local structures and guide future improvement, modernization and beautification efforts.
