Bill and Mary planned lunch at 1 30 at the Ritz. Mary’s watch was ten minutes slow while she believed it ran five minutes fast. Bills watch was eight minutes fast though he thought it was seven minutes slow. They arrive when their watches say 1 20.

Lucille Glitzner of Rhodes Avenue, a beauty contest winner, chose a banking job over modeling. North Normal Parkway remains a puzzling street on the south side east and west.
Handy data notes the Bryan Mullanphy fund established in 1851 to aid worthy travelers in St Louis as they head West. It has a surplus of just over $1,000,000 with no takers. Also mentions a boy found with potato tops after raiding groceries and a puzzle answer that both arrived at 1 15.

Southeast side youths ages five and three and a half rode on a furniture trailer attached to a Dowding car. They fell and were hurt as the vehicle moved to 73rd street. Hidon Thomason Jr suffered a broken leg and severe wounds. Clifford Frank injured mainly bruises. Both were hospitalized.
Jackson Park Camera Club president John A. Maurer announced new clubrooms at the Gladstone hotel on 62nd street and Kenwood avenue. The facilities include dark rooms and full equipment for members. The club, organized last October, had met in the Jackson Park golf shelter and is affiliated with the Associated Camera Clubs of the Chicago area.
Southeast side American Legion posts join a national drive to employ men over 40 in Veterans Employment Week. Unemployed veterans should register at Legion headquarters 127 N Dearborn with discharge papers urged for nonmembers at Stockyards Illinois State Employment Service 5418 Halsted. Employers are asked to contact Legion on 127 N Dearborn.

Marie Tragnitz, a Southeast side girl, survived a major Mexican train wreck that killed 26 and injured 42. She described derailed locomotive and cars, bandit blame, rescue by Federal troops, and a mile trek to a Monterey bound relief train after a seven week Mexico visit.
Rhodes Community Club holds a round table meeting tonight at Tuley Park fieldhouse 90th street and St. Lawrence avenue to honor new May members. Final plans for the dance and card party will be made for Saturday evening at Amigo K P hall 9231 Cottage Grove avenue with H R Loving as general chairman and George Vallee as ticket chairman.
Captain Patrick Collins, named by Police Commissioner James P. Allman, becomes Woodlawn’s new Southeast side captain transferring from South Chicago after six years at Desplaines street. Born in Ireland, he joined the force in 1910 and now heads Woodlawn with one son, John, 14. Three new lieutenants arrive at Woodlawn: Fred B. Kelly, John M. Leonard, and Redmond T. Gibbons.
Walter J. Riley, president, announced deposits at South Shore National Bank reached one million dollars last Thursday. Opened January 21, the bank reports deposits chiefly from small and medium customers with no public funds. Chicago bankers note the rapid growth as nearly unprecedented for a community bank.
Hyde Park high school plans an all-boys assembly tomorrow at 10 45 am at 62nd street and Stony Island. Evelyn Slater the English teacher will permit one woman to attend the event where University of Illinois coach Robert Zuppke and football star Red Grange are guest speakers. Principal Joseph F. Gonnelly will preside. An all girls assembly is scheduled for a later date.
Phil Elkin of Cohn and Rosenberger reported a bold daytime robbery last Saturday when thieves broke into his parked car on East 70th Street, stealing five telescope sample jewelry cases weighing about 800 pounds each. Police recovered fingerprints but no matches. no witnesses were found. The loot insured, valued around 1800 dollars, and although a few pieces worth up to 25 dollars appeared, disposing of the rest poses a challenge. Elkin will be unable to resume selling until duplicate material is obtained.
At a South Shore Chamber of Commerce meeting in the South Shore View hotel the committee discussed establishing a credit bureau for member use. Chairman George Echael cited long standing need and value of gathered information for members. Other committee members listed include Ralph Pope E J Ryan J L Rosenblum David Citron and John Papas.
Final rehearsals run this week and next for nearly 3,000 students from 30 Southeast side schools as Jackson Park hosts a gala Spring Festival on Sunday May 14 at 2 pm. The event, staged by the South East council recreation department PTA and Chicago Park District, features drills dances folk singing and orchestra with 10 000 spectators expected.
