A Chicago study shows parking meter revenue fell on 14 Southtown and Southeast streets last year while 11 metered streets gained. Halsted and Halsted area posted the largest drop, with 1955 receipts at 78 490 down from 82 048 in 1954.
Chicago plans a citywide revival of cycling with 250000 riders plus an expected 25000 more this year. Parks will add paved cinder paths, marked bike routes, exclusive rider lanes, and new child race courses. Stop signs will guide bike crossings at pedestrians.

The Zoning Board of Appeals rejected a proposal to locate a miniature golf course at 8618 24 S. Stony Island Ave. Alderman Einar Johnson and nearby residents protested, saying the venture would harm the neighborhood and hinder orderly development, despite calls for solid business growth.
A civic leaders committee was named yesterday to suggest a site for a municipal convention hall. The panel, formed after opposition to a lakefront Burnham Park site, includes Joseph Pois, Dennis O Harrow, Harold Mayer, Franklin Kreml, Ray Ashworth, Graham Aldis, Harry Harper, James A Hart, Marion Isbell, Rex Bates, James Gormley, Harold Shapiro and Harry Weese, among others.
A major Southtown department store and several manufacturers join the Home and Food Show slated for May 17 to 20. Sponsors promise free tickets distributed early next week at numerous points across the South Side, with an official Sunday notice listing distribution sites.

City council consensus supports enacting a revised zoning ordinance with public hearings planned for May 24 25 and 28 at City Hall. Alderman Nicholas Bohling praised four class classifications and provisions for off street parking signs and better administration while noting state Supreme Court actions invalidated the 1941 ordinance. Speakers included Harry F. Chaddick and George H. Kranenberg Jr. and Southeast area associations attended the mass meeting.
Fluoridated water began flowing to residents south of 39th street and in 23 suburbs at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Chicago. Mayor Daley and Dr. Maurice Hoeltgen presided at the South District Filtration plant as officials praised the health measure despite picketers outside led by Mrs. Alice Schuringa who threatened legal action.
Horace Mann school at 8050 S Chappel Ave extends advance registration through Friday May 11 for kindergarten and first grade. Eligible children must reach age 5 by Nov 11, 1956 for kindergarten or be 6 by Nov 11 and have no prior public school attendance for first grade. Principal Marion D Moran requires birth certificate at original entry.
