Robbery attempt ends with man shot three times
Porter Frank Ross, 63, of 8129 S Langley Ave, was shot three times during a dragged out struggle over a gun in a vehicle at 912 E 62nd St. He was fixing a flat tire near E 45th St when lured by a stranger asking for a ride for $1.25. The assailant fled after a struggle, leaving a brown cap. Ross was treated at Woodlawn and Cook County hospitals and remains in fair condition.

Two men stopped for a traffic offense at E 67th and S Paxton led to the arrest and indictment of James Pride for sale of narcotics. Page admitted marijuana use and helped perform a marked buy. officers recovered marijuana and marked bills. Pride, held on a $15,000 bond, faces a life sentence after a 1945 narcotics conviction. A two alarm fire raced through the upper floors of a three story building at 6219 5S Ingleside Ave as strong winds and downpours hampered crews. The blaze began in a second floor unit and reached the third floor, causing about 12000 dollars in damage with no injuries reported.

Burglars Loot Robert Hall Store Damage Explains Rope Entry
South Chicago police investigated a dawn burglary at the Robert Hall clothing store on 9212 South Chicago Avenue. Detectives say attackers used a rope to scale the rear wall, cut a roof hole, drilled into a cement casing, blew it with dynamite or nitroglycerin, and removed the 150 pound canister containing receipts. Garments on display were destroyed and sent to the crime lab for fingerprinting.

Oil Truck Crashes Into Tavern Injuring Four

James Reed, 17, stole a cab at Eighteenth Street station and led Woodlawn police through Jackson Park injuring a passenger, Mrs. Ella Prim, 62, who learned the ride was stolen after entering the cab. Reed collided with three police cars, two three wheelers, and two private autos before arrest.
