Five youths held on bonds after South Side holdups
Five youths admitted to a spree of holdups and auto thefts on Chicago’s South Side were indicted by the grand jury and face bonds totaling $100,000. Thomas Dalton, 17, shot during the attempted hold up of an Illinois Central detective at the 72nd Street LC platform, appeared pale and bandaged in court. The suspects gave addresses on Ellis and Lake Park avenues and Washington, Iowa, with the case continued to April 14.

Calumet area to get 1800 wartime homes in Chicago project
The National Housing Agency authorized 1800 new and remodeled homes in the Calumet industrial area and southwest Chicago to house 1800 war workers families. Of these 700 are reserved for Negro occupants, with 1200 new and 600 remodeled units. Private funding will cover construction, rents run about 50 dollars monthly, with postwar sale prices not exceeding 6000 dollars.
