Captain Patrick Brady of the Grand Crossing police says the station at 76th and Maryland is used as a headquarters for special squads ready to act if labor trouble arises in the Southeast community.
A public hearing before the Chicago Park District commissioners will consider banning parking on Jeffery avenue from 67th to 75th streets. The Southeast Boulevard association led by Peter Foote and Wil Haro Hellander argues cars clog the avenue and create hazards.

Clarence A Beutel president of the South East National Bank at 1180 E 3rd St. is a Woodlawn leader born in Chicago in 1895. He lives at 6700 Grandonave with wife and three children Larry Clarence Jr Joan and James. He studied at John Marshall Law School and began in banking in 1909. He served as Lt Beutel in the 1st Division during World War I and held various bank roles including secretary to Melvin Traylor. He belongs to multiple clubs and aims to renew Woodlawn’s business district prominence.
The Grand Crossing Chatham chamber wraps up a membership drive with fifty new members, triple last year, announced by Bud Singman. Individual honors go to Loretta Anderson and Helen Steinman for recruiting nine and eleven members respectively. Dr Willard Johnson led a winning team with 3,500 points. Funeral services were held for Edward H. Altmeier at 60 after a year and a half illness. He lived at 700 East 88th Place and died Tuesday morning. Altmeier was division superintendent of Chicago Surface Lines at Burnside station and began with the company in 1899 as a grip man on cable cars. He is survived by his widow Carrie and daughter Mildred McElroy. Interment was Cedar Park cemetery. He belonged to Olympia Lodge 864 A F and A M Midway Chapter 556 AM and was past patron of Utopia Chapter 605 OES.
Merchants in Weedlawn cooperate with the Weedlawn Business Men's Association for an "all-card" Dollar Day sale set for Thursday April 15. Len Meyers directs activities from 837 East First, as stores stock unusual bargains across clothing, shoes, furniture and more to attract thrifty housewives and surrounding communities. Spring is the motif with value pricing on seasonal wear and related goods.
Patrick F Wall and his two year old Michael were struck near St Anselm church as they walked to Palm Sunday service. Wall died from a broken neck after shielding his son who survived, witness says the sedan driven by Jacob Bruton lost control after a crash at 1st street and Prairie avenue. The collision tossed Wall about 75 feet before bystanders rushed them to Woodlawn hospital.
A Chicago police sergeant briefs a mother on Marian R a runaway from Indiana. The girl 16 but looks older, five feet four, wearing a red dress and white flowered coat, left with Christmas gift money to live her own life. The note asks for concern but Marian’s disappearance continues to unfold as the search spreads to the Missing Persons bureau.
Pageant, concerts and religious dramas are planned to honor the Resurrection with events staged by churches and community groups. The program includes a pageant, musical performances and dramatic readings reflecting the Easter story.
