Four area youths are under arrest after two separate hold up attempts on the South Side. Kenneth Gossmeyer 20 was shot by Patrolman John King during a failed hold up at Highland View Medical Center. Gossmeyer and his 16 year old bride Judith were taken into custody. Two other suspects were arrested after attempting to rob an off duty officer and a third youth surrendered at Gresham station. Cant Hennessy plans to seek extra pay for King who stopped Gossmeyer without injuring bystanders. Police link Gossmeyer to an $800 center robbery last April 1.

Pullman Car Factory Fire Rages Through Abandoned Buildings
Firemen battled an extra alarm blaze in freezing temperatures for over two hours at the unused Pullman Car factory at E 111th Street and Ss Champlain Avenue. Two three story structures joined by a catwalk were demolished. firefighting efforts were hindered by mud as flames shot 300 feet high. No injuries or damages estimated due to planned razing, with 27 pieces of equipment and the department's 100 feet tower called to the scene. Water kept on the ruins for more than 12 hours.
