Pioneer Chicago Woman Alta Hershfield Dies at 84
Alta Hershfield, 84, a pioneer Chicago resident who arrived when Western Avenue bounded the west and 39th Street the south, died after a monthlong illness at Michael Reese Hospital. She was buried Tuesday in Waldheim O B A cemetery. Widow of musician Michael Hershfield, she was mother to Dr. Alex S. Hershfield, ex state alienist, and Harry Hershfield, a New York cartoonist. A daughter, Mrs Ira Shapiro, lived at 7439 Oglesby, and another, Mrs Robert Talbert, at 5012 Winthrop, wife of the Chicago park district chief clerk.
