Funeral services were held for Margaret Jean MacKenzie 24 at 7321 South Shore Drive after she died by her own action Monday in the Welding Engineer Publishing office at 608 S Dearborn Street. A coroner jury ruled temporary insanity and noted she left a note to her mother Mrs Gertrude Hungerford MacKenzie. She was sent to Odell Illinois for burial in the family plot. Surviving her is her mother Mrs MacKenzie president of the publishing company founded by her husband who died 11 years ago.
Roy Healy and the South Area council of the Chicago Motor club announced a tentative July 1 celebration for finishing 100th Street between Indianapolis and Torrence Avenues. The improved link will ease South Side congestion by redirecting traffic to Jeffery, Stony Island and Western avenues, with the West connection via 103rd Street.
Southeast Side hosts multiple St Patrick events with the Galmet council Knights of Columbus at the Trianon ballroom on 62nd at Cottage Grove. Bill Carlson orchestra will play for hundreds of youths as Dr Clarence J Strobel and a committee organize activities. Other events include the Irish club at Chesterfield Liberty hall on 817 E 92nd St featuring two orchestras, jigs, Irish steps, folk songs, and an Irish bagpiper. Additional barn dance at Our Lady of Peace school 79th and Jeffery Ave with Five Kentucky Dew Drops. juvenile American Legion auxiliary unit 175 hosts a dance at Legion hall 6303 Wondlawn Ave.
John True, 20, leaned on a flower box during a porch conversation with a neighbor last Saturday around 10 PM. The box collapsed, sending him 12 feet to a concrete basement entrance. He was treated at Jackson Park and County hospitals and listed in good condition.
Three seniors died in traffic crashes on Chicago's Southeast side this week matching last week's toll. Bertha Knauer 55, Mary Nebel 68, and Steppen Fogarty 23 were struck by cars at 94th and Cottage Grove, 61st Street, and near St Lawrence Ave. Knauer died after being hit near Cottage Grove and 94th. Nebel died from injuries after a March 1 crash at Michigan and 61st. Inquests were continued to March 24 and March 30 for witnesses. Funeral services and surviving relatives are noted.
Mary F. Shewbridge 65, a pioneer Chicago teacher, died Tuesday at her brother John’s home. Funeral at 9 am in SS Leo Church with burial at Mount Olivet. Rev. Thomas R. Shewbridge and Rev. P. F. Shewbridge to read the requiem. Shewbridge taught first grade for 40 years in South Side schools and retired five years ago. Survived by three Chicago brothers and Edward of San Francisco.
Burglars broke into Herbert J. Jordan’s home at 6205 Kimbark Ave on Saturday night. They raided a bedroom, ransacked the house, and made off with watches, rings, and about $500 in cash.
