Mayor Kelly lauded the development as a solution to housing war workers, with 248 five room homes on Merrill and Clyde avenues east of Jeffery Avenue. Rentals are 50 dollars monthly plus six for utilities, with a four month occupancy to qualify for purchase at six thousand dollars subject to a five thousand four hundred mortgage and forty dollar monthly FHA payments. First 124 homes ready May 1 with the rest to follow through summer, built by the Chicago Plan commission and FHA.

Police hunt two accomplices of Thomas Dalton 17 after a March 3 shooting by Ellis Tandy 43 at the 72nd st LC station near Kimbark. Dalton critically wounded at Bridewell hospital. The 16th annual homecoming of St Patrick's Church on Commercial Avenue was held Monday at the South Chicago Masonic temple on 91st Street and Exchange Avenue. It is one of the oldest Catholic churches on the South Side.

Man Who Knew Edison as Fresh Kid Dies at 87
John F. Barron, 87, longtime railroad telegraph operator on the Detroit and Port Huron line, recalled his meetings with Thomas A. Edison then nicknamed a fresh kid. Barron died March 3 and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery after a 55 year railroad career. He recounted an incident where Edison, toying with chemicals, prompted a brakeman to move him off a car, possibly injuring his ears. Barron also spoke of Young Edison’s visits to his office and interest in the new typewriter.

John Goggin Dies Suddenly Utilities Foreman at Calumet Station
John F. Goggin aged 60 of 8115 Paxton avenue was found dead near the Calumet station of the People s Gas Light and Coke company after a heart attack. He served the company over 40 years as general foreman. Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Peace church and burial was in St Mary s cemetery. Survivors include his widow Georgia a son Pvt Richard Goggin and two daughters Mrs Ethel Melby and Mrs Frances Patchin. Private Goggin attended his father s rites.
