Veteran Broderick to be honored by American Legion post
Thomas J. Broderick Jr 28 year old blind war veteran will receive a life membership in the Stevens-Doyle post of the American Legion in ceremonies at 830 p m Monday at post headquarters 1706 E 79th St Broderick lost his sight from a German sniper bullet in Arnheim Belgium in 1944 He later established himself as an insurance broker and is entering a new office at 81st St and Stony Island Ave He is a St Ignatius High School graduate and a former merchant marine and Army paratrooper wounded during a mission into Belgium September 21 1944 His recovery included schooling for blinded veterans and a state broker license. He is active in the Lake Shore Athletic Club and the St Philip Neri Knights of Columbus chapter.
