Carlo Falcone age 34 is scheduled for trial July 7 before Judge Daniel P. Trude in a murder case. He pleads not guilty to the March slaying of Robert Hall 44 of 1534 East 73rd Place. An insanity inquiry by Dr. Harry Hoffman will be filed for the trial day.
Milford F. Henkel of 7500 Cottage Grove Ave was re elected president of the South Side Lawyers association for the eighth consecutive year. New vice presidents were Thomas J. Downs and Samuel Getz. John F. O'Brien was re elected secretary Earl V. Gates is general counsel and Forman Lutz treasurer. Board members named include Ald Roy E. Olin Morris Sider Leonard J. Mandel and other longtime directors.
The Southeast economist offers a $25 reward for information about a man posing as a newspaper representative selling metal social security tags. A proposed Chicago transit franchise outlines three new bus lines on 83rd State to Green Bay, Jeffery 67th to South Chicago, and Yates Ist to 81st, plus changes within two years. The unified Chicago Transit Company would run buses streets cars subways and elevated lines with fare increases and transfers fee. The plan includes modernization and extensions along 87th Vincennes Exchange Damen South Park Ashland and 74th 75th streets. The ordinance awaits study by the city council transportation committee.
Two Southeast side parks host community Fourth of July events next Tuesday with over 10 000 anticipated in Grand Crossing park. Stephen V. Ronksley president of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce was named to head the slate of officers for the new South Shore Community Council at a nominating committee meeting held at Ringer Realty. Other officers include Frank T. Lindman vice president Louis Mann second vice president Richard Lenihan treasurer and Barry Norton secretary. A tentative constitution will be prepared by Lindman for presentation at the next general meeting on July 10 at Miss Alberts Tea Room.
The Southeast Economist promotes Southtown Beach at Fish Lake Indiana as a holiday destination with a Summer colony lots at 78 dollars each. The drive from city streets via US highways covers 64 miles in about 90 minutes with daily economist representatives on site to assist visitors. The area offers fishing swimming and boating with species such as black bass bluegills and crappies.
Three Southeast side residents drowned in separate incidents this past week. Thomas Frances O’Neil, 37, and his son Leonard Robert O’Neill, 14, of 7247 Ridgeland Ave, perished at Cedar Lake after attempting to save Marion O’Neil who first signaled trouble in a rowboat. Edward Newell, 9, son of Mr and Mrs. William Newell of 7329 University Ave, drowned Tuesday at Jackson Park boat harbor off 67th Street. Funeral services for Thomas and Leonard set for 10:30 a.m. at St. Laurence Church. Burial at St. Mary Cemetery. Leonard had just finished his first year at De LaSalle High School. Thomas was manager of the A and P store at 1952 E. Tard Street. The Newell boy was with two younger companions in the outer harbor when the tragedy occurred.
Julius Perlman a 17 year old Hyde Park student was discharged in Boys court on a manslaughter charge arising from the June 8 death of Charles Weller 18 after a fist fight. A disorderly conduct charge was continued to June 27 1940 under Judge J M Braude. A coroner jury ruled the death accidental.
