Southeast Sider Named Head of Jewish War Veterans
Rudolph Shapira of 7925 Essex avenue was elected commander of the Illinois Jewish War Veterans at the department convention held at Civil Service Post American Legion HQ. Other Southeast Siders named to office include Charles Bournstine, David Fass, and Harry Shaffer. Louis Cohen and Joseph Rosenblum also named in key posts. The department covers three posts Gen Edward Solomon, Gen Abel Davis, and Gen Milton Foreman. Shapira, active since WWI, was past commander of Fort Dearborn and Siberia posts and is master of Crescent lodge. Plans for additional posts in Chicago and a delegation to the Boston national convention were discussed. Leo Wulffsohn is retiring commander.

Hirsch Choral Winners To Air On WLS Program
Hirsch high school's prize winning choral club will be heard over radio station WLS Monday evening from eight to nine thirty o'clock as part of a Board of Education musical program. Also appearing are Lindblom high school and Wilson Junior College choirs. Helen Howe will thank the community for support in aiding Hirsch and Lindblom choirs to Springfield for the national choral competition. Hirsch's choir, directed by Mrs. Helen Kane, won first place in its division at Springfield and William Tabbert won first place in the solo contest for baritones.
