Five Will Be Ordained as Carmelite Priests Saturday
Five youths from Chicago who left in 1936 to study for the priesthood at Carmelite Seminary in Niagara Falls Ontario will be ordained by Auxiliary Bishop William D. O'Brien at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Carmelite church of St. Clare. The group includes Rev. Russell Gavin Rev. Pierce Gilmartin Rev. Murray Phelan Rev. Gordon Brady and Rev. Eugene Kilkenny. Each man underwent a 10 year training path culminating in three years of theology at Whitefriars hall. Father Gavin will celebrate his first solemn Mass at St. Brendan's June 15 with a reception in the church hall. Father Gilmartin's first Mass will be at St. Dorothy's church with a reception in the school hall.
