Land Acquired for Two Southeast Side Parks

Chicago Park District officials report most land for two Southeast Side parks has been acquired. Nine point six four acres arm the first site near 82nd Street and Yates Avenue, with the stadium as its southern boundary. A second park at 87th Street and Jeffery Avenue covers 17.28 acres, with boundaries 87th to 89th streets and Jeffery to Clyne Avenue.

Recorded Concerts to Continue at Parks

A series of recorded appreciation programs presents Gershwin works tonight at 8 in Russell Square park and tomorrow at Bes semer park with the Boston Pops under Arthur Fiedler. A brief interpretive sketch precedes and follows each piece. Next Wednesday a Strauss program will feature the Cincinnati Symphony and the Boston Pops at Jackson park promontory.

Burglars Use Tools of Victim to Open Safe

Enterprising thieves broke into the William Feverbend Motor sales at 7722 Stony Island Ave on Tuesday morning. They used company tools including an acetylene torch hammer and chisels to attempt a large front office safe, then opened a small safe and escaped with 200 dollars. Employees found the tools scattered in the front office Tuesday morning.

Reward Offered for Poisoner of Dogs in Southeast Chicago

Signs promise a $200 reward for arrest and conviction of those poisoning dogs in southeast Chicago area from Marquette Road to Dorchester and Stony Island. Humane officer Allen Gisch said two months earlier 15 dogs were poisoned. ten died before signs appeared. One dog survived after a vet removed caustic poison, and evidence suggests non rat poison.

Tragic Drowning Of SevenYearOld At 76th Street Beach

A seven year old boy, Joseph O Donnell, drowned in five feet of water off the 76th street beach at 2 30 p m yesterday. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Walter O Donnell of 8538 Aberdeen Street and a student at St Kilian s grammar school. Dr Michael Ballin found the body 25 feet from shore and said the child apparently stumbled into the water. The boy s sister Dolores and brother Frank witnessed the tragedy as police and rescue squads responded. An inquest is set for this morning at 1413 W 79th Street. The drowning follows another Lake Michigan death of a South Side boy within 15 days.

Jittery Robber Robs Tavern Wounding Owner

George Vassilos, 55, of 7301 Luella Ave, was grazed by a pistol bullet during a tavern robbery at 2161 E 75th St. Early Tuesday two men entered, ordered him to the rear, and fled after taking $100. He was treated and released from Jackson Pari hospital.

Hallenbeck Joins Southmoor Bank Staff

Harry E. Hallenbeck, 7100 South Shore Drive, has joined the Southmoor Bank at 6760 Stony Island Avenue in the business extension department. A veteran banker, he previously served as cashier and receiver for eight Chicago area bank failures from 1932 to 1939, audited foreign funds control for the U S Treasury in New York, and most recently worked as an auditor with the Reconstruction Finance Corporation.
