City seeks receiver for neglectful building at 5315 17 S Blackstone

The city filed in Circuit court to appoint a receiver to manage the four story apartment building at 5315 17 S Blackstone Ave alleging endangerment to tenants. It cites 19 notices to owners for violations including unsanitary facilities, loose plaster and damaged floors. Defendants include Joseph F Rosenthal and spouse Claue, and Joseph Simon and spouse Suzanne.

W C Rosenthal 65 of 5433 S Hyde Park will retire September 1 after 26 years with International Harvester Company in the farm tractor engineering department.

Ragweed Pollen Exhibit At Museum Of Science And Industry

An exhibit prepared by Oren C. Durham shows grasses and weeds producing hay fever pollen. It includes a 75,000 times enlarged ragweed model and a pollen tube with 500 million grains to illustrate allergy causes and skin test methods. The display runs through September.

Missing Wife and Child Found in Alabama

Mrs. Josephine Mannion 28 left home with her year old son Michael to visit an aunt. Suspected to have run to Birmingham for homesickness, she returned with her husband and mother after a city wide search. The older son Thomas remained with his grandmother.

Furs Valued At Eight Thousand Stolen From Hyde Park Flat

Mrs. Joseph S. Grant found $8,000 in fur belongings missing from a closet in her apartment at 5515 S Hyde Park Blvd. Hyde Park police suspect the burglary happened between 6:30 am and 2 pm while the Grants were out. Three mink capes and a cashmere sweater were taken.

Forgotten Children Get Help From New Suburban Group

A new organization, the Suburban Southwest Association for Mentally Retarded Children, led by Mrs. Rita Harrington, aims to aid local children identified as retarded. She notes only 30 cases identified in the Southwest suburban area, mostly in Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park, Worth, Blue Island, Stickney, and Hometown, with awareness rising to reduce stigma.

Thousands Seek Relief From Heat In Chicago Parks

Thousands flocked to South Side beaches and parks to escape a record heat with temperatures near 99. The Rainbow Beach and other city parks drew tens of thousands, while officials extended park hours and advised cooling practices. Dr. Herman N.
