The House authorized 9.884 million dollars for highway bridge alterations over the Cal Sag channel to widen the 3.2 mile waterway. The money, part of three phases, brings total federal bridge aid for the project to nearly 18.4 million, with 40 million expected under the Truman Hobbs Act. Local Cook County communities argue federal share should cover bridge costs.

Supporters include the Illinois Federation of Labor Archdiocese of Chicago Chancery office Back of the Yards council Englewood Businessmen's association and others with Mayor Daley lending support.

He cites safer, cheaper tablet options and warns of dosage control challenges in distributed water systems. The issue draws on 26 years of study and ongoing scrutiny.
Mayor Daley's mobile city hall will visit the Southeast area next Thursday evening August 2. Representatives will answer questions and take complaints at BE. 79th St and 5S Cottage Grove Ave at 7 p.m. The unit will move to E. 87th St and S. Cottage Grove Ave at 8 p.m.
