Agency Buys Hyde Park Apartments for Redevelopment
The Chicago Land Clearance Commission announced the first acquisition in the 47 acre Hyde Park redevelopment plan. A vacant three story building at 6623 33 S Blackstone Ave with 12 apartments was bought from the University of Chicago. Renovation halted before completion. National Shrine Prayer Rally To Open Peace Procession
About 30,000 people will take part in a patriotic and religious procession in Chicago Saturday evening led by Mayor Richard Daley. The march from E 63rd and Drexel will end at Jackson Park altar for prayers for peace. The event honors Our Lady of Mount Carmel with a crowning of the Madonna of Peace and a benediction by Very Rev. Kieffer, followed by an address on Peace by Rev. Finan Glynn. A 300-voice choir and 300 color guards will accompany the event.
