The Works Progress Administration tentatively approves a 2,040,441 appropriation for Calumet Park at 85th Street and the Lake. Chicago WPA director H. K. Seltzer said 2,473 workers will be employed as the project continues reclaiming the lake front. Since 1935 the Chicago Park District and WPA have transformed slag dumps into a 194 acre park with a rock garden, running track, and other beautification efforts.

Mary Hanrahan, once of Hyde Park Chicago, serves as Edgar Bergen's secretary. She followed Bergen and his partner to New York and on to Hollywood, staying close to Charlie McCarthy amid a movie colony network run by friends Alfred and Martens and Mrs Mary Mérten McGuigan.

Stocks bonds and other securities may be valued at 10 percent of market price or twice annual yield, bank deposits at 4 percent. tangible items listed at owner valuations. Donald MacArthur an 18 year old motorcycle delivery rider from 2827 FE 78th pl was in serious condition at Jackson Park Hospital after last Friday’s crash at Tist st and Blackstone Ave. A gear failure in the rear wheel caused loss of control and a compound fracture of his right leg with muscular injuries.

Sid Sachs to lead as Lord Mayor with a cabinet of community leaders including O'Brien, Smith, Hammond, Davenport, Batham, Becker, Barre, and others to discuss department activities and Woodlawn improvements.
Police and the coroner proceed with an inquest into the death of Mrs. Sigfrid Kraus aged 39, who died after a collision on 18028 Torrence Ave in Lansing. Louis Edelman, 47, suffered serious injuries as the driver of the car carrying Mrs. Kraus. Ludwig Grothaus, 29, of Dyer Indiana, faces involuntary manslaughter charges pending the coroner jury's inquiry set for July 27. Grothaus was lightly injured and released on $1,000 bond.
A. F. Thaviu brings his band to Jackson park next Sunday at 6 pan for the third free open air concert in a series by the Chicago Federation of Musicians and the Chicago Park district. Soloists include Margot Rebeil soprano Milo Luka Parilone and Henry Thompson tenor. The program features Lassen overture Fest Tchaikowsky Caprice Italian Russian Dance by Glinka Serenade from Rural Wedding Symphony by Goldmark and the finale from act two of Verdi La Traviata.

Morris Stein, 43, owner of a wholesale fruit market, was assaulted early Tuesday in his apartment vestibule. The trio robbed him of a $150 diamond ring, a $37 wrist watch, and $2 in cash, then dragged him to his unit as his wife watched. Police launched a wide search for the suspects.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Hartley of 5203 Carpenter Jr welcomed triplets two boys and a girl Sunday night at Chicago Lying-In Hospital. The heaviest newborn weighed four pounds six ounces, the girl four pounds one ounce, the other girl four pounds three ounces. All three are in incubators. Mrs Hartley is Trene Boehmer, daughter of James Boehmer of 5203 Carpenter. The father works as a druggist at Walgreens at 21st Street and South Shore Drive. The Hartleys also have a son, Jerry Jr, 741 months old.
