Local residents Benjamin F. Goldberg Frank Devine George Schuster and W C Simpson forecast the 1940s season with varied bets on the Yankees and other teams. Goldberg and Simpson praise New York power while Devine favors Milwaukee or St Louis in the NL and Whitey Ford. Schuster backs Cincinnati and the Yanks as likely champs.

More than 200 South Side residents who were employes or concessionaires at the 1893 Columbian Exposition gathered in Jackson Park for a 1957 reminiscence outing. Members of the 93rs wore 1893 garb and recalled the World’s Fair as they toasted 1893 with residents including Mrs. Gertrude Bestow and Mrs. Marie Domke among others.
Operation Chicago Park District runs day camps for ages eight to twelve in 56 parks citywide. Camps run 9 30 am to 4 30 pm Monday through Friday with some parks offering afternoon sessions for parent participation. Registration at nearest park with a parent present. Southeast area parks include Bessemer Calumet Mann Tuley Russell Square and South Shore parks.
Peter G Hepp formerly of 8208 East End Ave is residing in Wilton Manors and serves as a night dispatcher for the Wilton Manors Police Department after retirement from the Chicago Police Department in August 1955 following 30 years service.
Mayor Daley’s mobile unit will tour the Southeast area next week to gather resident opinions. It will stop at multiple intersections from July 15 to July 17, collecting troubles, complaints, problems and praise for study by the Mayor’s office.

Other ships bring wood ware wine printing gear and general cargo as Norweg0ian fleets stock up for fall whaling season. Regulators note further arrivals include the Manchester Pioneer and Francisca Sartori with varied consignments.
Southeast Little League Auxiliary will hold its third meeting of the year on July 16 at 8 30 p m in the Manor Community church at E 100th st and S Crandon are. All mothers and friends of boys playing in the Southeast Little League are invited to attend.
A Thursday birthday gathering at Mrs. Sadie Sloan’s residence 9847 S Calhoun Ave celebrated Tobey Hirsh’s birthday. Twenty five guests attended including Stephen Sloan, Patrice Hirsh, Richard Hirsh, and other family members and friends.
The Perkins Traveling Zoo visits Chicago park camps this summer led by park puppeteer Jack Mulqueen and curator Chief Whirling Thunder. Events include Calumet park July 29 morning and Bessemer park July 29 evening, Tuley park July 30 morning, Avalon park August 2 morning, and South Shore park August 7 evening, with both figures at Avalon and South Shore on July 17.
The Men's Brotherhood of the South Shore Methodist church sponsored a rummage sale at 7851 S. Burnham Ave on July 10. Clothing items were sold starting at 7 p.m. Proceeds support a church project.
More than two dozen thousand Southeast students celebrated the end of the Spring term as graduation week swept 10 150 high school seniors and 16 201 eighth graders through ceremonies. City teachers colleges and night schools awarded dozens more. Summer programs and camps were arranged by YMCA and other groups to keep youths active with sports trips and crafts while Traffic Chief McGuire urged drivers to watch for children at play during vacation period.
South Chicago Shopping Center leaders unveil a free two hour lot at E 93rd and South Chicago Ave, for 100 cars under a deal with property owner Phil Cullen. Tickets are validated by member stores of the Chamber of Commerce and billed to those stores.
The Army returns three acres of Jackson park land near E 63rd Street and Lake Michigan to the Chicago Park District. The site, previously used for an ammunition building, will be torn down and landscaped at Army expense.
Marion Lohmar of 8200 S. Maryland Ave received the J. L. Kraft Personality Award during the Jones Commercial High School commencement. The honor goes to students with the highest personality points for service, appearance, participation, and school involvement. Other area graduates include Barbara Adamczyk, Annamae Toomey, Connie Kruger, Patricia Herlan, and Lenore Cross.
