Funeral services for Chicago attorney and former Superior court judge George A. Trude were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at 7659 Jeffery Ave. Burial followed in Rosehill Cemetery. He died Friday in Jackson Park Hospital at age 77. Survived by widow Annie, son Sidney, and nephew Judge Daniel P. Trude of the Circuit court. he practiced at Trude and Kahana.
Thomas Blanchfield head of the branch income tax office will explain the new pay-as-you-go tax plan to Woodlawn Business Men's Association at noon Tuesday in the Hayes hotel at 64th street and University. Lt Commander Howard Sigtenhorst, former dentist at 841 East 63rd Street and new commanding officer of the Naval Training School at the University of Chicago, will be an honored guest.
Military funeral services for Lt. Arthur F. Kelly 20 year old Army air force bombardier will be held at 9 a.m. from a channel at 2700 E 75th st to St Bride's church. Kelly was reported missing January 2 a year after enlistment and his crew were found June 23. The plane had been flying from Wendover Utah.
Thieves fled with 195 dollars from two Southeast side incidents during Independence Day weekend. One victim was robbed of 65 dollars and had some clothing removed to hinder pursuit. A Chinese laundry owner reported 130 dollars taken from a cash drawer while he slept upstairs. Robert Moore, a former playground director, was robbed of 85 dollars early Sunday morning by two youths with a gun.
Civic leaders plan the South Side Open Victory Garden Harvest festival to raise funds for the Training School Service Men center at 88rd St and Jefferson Ave. The event runs August 28 and 29, using Show Rooms at 2023 E. Tist St for displays of vegetables and flowers. Edward A. Hintz, vice president of the South Shore National, proposes the festival.
South Side drinking water shows no substantial improvement since last Saturday’s near danger point. Commissioner Oscar Hewitt reports high bacteria counts and warns south winds may worsen pollution. Chlorination is insufficient. completion of the 79th Street filtration plant could remove 70 to 75 percent of bacteria, aiding 500000 residents though more water diversion could help.
Southeast man Pvt. Andrew Konwent is confirmed killed in action. three other aircrew from Chicago area are missing in the European theater. Missing are Lt. Walter Thimm and Lt. Mayer Kramer, both linked to Flying Fortress missions, and Staff Sgt. Walter Feuer. Families hope they are prisoners of war. Konwent previously served in Alaska and Seattle.
Patrick J. Collins, captain at Englewood Police Station, wed Dora A. Lynch at Little Flower church. The couple, of Luella Avenue and Ada Street addresses, held a family dinner at Phil Schmidt's in Roby Indiana and reside on Luella Avenue.
