Chicago Transit Substitutes Buses for Street Cars
The Chicago Surface Lines shift to 25 buses on the South Chicago Ewing avenues line replacing street cars. Buses run every 3 to 5 minutes during rush hours and 12 minutes otherwise, providing through service from 63rd Street and South Park to 136th Street and Brandon Avenue while South Chicago avenue street cars remain in operation on a separate route.

Woodlawn civic leader George Skeeles dies at 64
George Skeeles longtime Woodlawn civic figure and co founder of the Associated Clubs of Woodlawn died at his home from a heart attack at age 64. He co owned Skeeles Colonial Undertaking Chapel and helped lead local organizations including Woodlawn Optimists club and the First Presbyterian church board. He is survived by his widow Freda two children and three sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Cottage Grove Avenue chapel with burial in Mount Hope cemetery.

Police seized him hours after the body was found claiming he was beaten by four men in the park prior to the incident. A lie test was inconclusive and he was charged with disorderly conduct, with the judge scolding police for the lengthy detention without accusation while the crime lab faced staffing delays.
