Funeral services for Edward L. Rust a bond broker who died of heart disease at 53 were held Tuesday in Ghent and Clems chapel 2700 East 75th Street. He retired in 1932 and is survived by his widow his mother Mrs Mary L Rust and his sister Mrs Laura A Wells. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The Chicago Metropolitan Subway company proposes a city wide subway system with four routes to serve the South Side. Alderman John Coughlin introduces the ordinance as engineers study financing and franchise steps. Feeder lines would run from the Loop to Cottage Grove, South Chicago, and Torrence terminals, with two routes to the Southwest.
The drowning of eight year old Dorothy Crundwell at Jackson Park Beach marks the fourth death this year at the same location. The inquest heard lifeguard William Clark describe finding the body in about four feet of water. Funeral services for Dorothy will be at Lady of Good Council church with burial at Resurrection cemetery.
A 20 year old South Side youth Charles Haigh Jr. survives after being trapped beneath a heavy truck for nearly 15 hours on a deserted road. He lies in Balings hospital with his body stabilized by a frame of aluminum pipes and canvas supports. His parents Mr and Mrs Charles Haigh of 8026 Aberdeen St. report he remained cheerful despite critical injuries from the accident on May 29.
The South Shore Chamber of Commerce public relations committee outlined a welcome strangers drive with a 17 day carnival to raise funds for promoting South Shore merchants. President William M. Devine noted no gambling, rides and family friendly amusements, with merchant displays and lunch concessions. The effort centers on strengthening community spirit during the South Shore Charter Jubilee period and features vaudeville appearances, bike races, bathing beauty contests and pet parades planned for a wide community outreach.
Ten more people in the Southeast community received a $4 cash gift after presenting Lady Bountiful coupons from merchants advertised in last week's Southeast Economist. In the two weeks since the feature began, twenty people have benefited from the cash gifts as Lady Bountiful tours shopping centers today.
