Former Woodlawn Police Captain to Retire Tomorrow
Edward J. Kelly former captain of the Woodlawn police and the first officer in Chicago to arrest Al Capone will retire from active duty tomorrow due to ill health after 40 years on the force. He served at the Southeast side station for two years and held posts in the detective bureau, guard duties for President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, and the state's attorney’s office. He was born October 7 1883 joined the department in 1906 and rose to captain in 1934. He plans a Florida vacation after retirement and lives at 1220 Columbia Avenue with his wife Muriel, daughter Rosemary and son Lieutenant James currently on army leave.

Southeast Side Resident 38 Years Dies at Age of 99
Nels John Nelson, 99, longtime Chicago resident and former painter, died at home after a two year illness. Born near Stockholm on July 5 1646 he moved to America at 22, lived on the North Side, then Park Manor, and raised a large family with his wife Matilda Olson who died 20 years ago. He was active in Elim Free church and Sunday school. Survived by daughter Emma, seven other children, seventeen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Mrs Mildred Bloxon Dies At 39 In Chicago
Mrs Mildred Bloxon 39 of 8018 Euclid ave Chicago died last Thursday and was buried Monday at Mt Hope cemetery. A Lindblom High School home arts teacher since 1932 she previously taught in a Nebraska town and at Harper High School. Survived by husband Ralph two sisters Adeline Thiem and Dorothy Day and brothers Eugene Elmer.

Anthony Lalla, 39, released on cash bond after an auto crash on 71st street and Blackstone Avenue killed Robert Abernathy, 52. Lalla faces manslaughter leaving the scene and unauthorized use of a car. Judge O Connell continued the case to February 25. Driver in fatal streetcar crash charged with manslaughter
Pay real estate tax by Friday, warns treasurer. John M. Sales, 24, of 14411 W. 95th St., driver of the car that struck four streetcar workers at 63rd Street and Indiana, killing two and injuring two, was released on bond after a coroner's jury recommended a grand jury hearing on manslaughter charges. County treasurer warns delinquent owners their property will be sold for 1944 taxes. The crash also involved Riordan, Riordan, and Badneck, with Mrs. Anna Badneck, 82, among the injured, as services were held and police reported.

An 82 year old Woodlawn woman died from fall injuries after a car crash. Police said the missing woman was not found yet and coroner’s vigil was held at the 63rd Street and Harvard Avenue chapel. Sir Edmund Swain testified that Sales was not intoxicated after tests taken 13 minutes post accident.
