Trunk bandit gang named in Cook County true bills
Four alleged members of the trunk bandit gang, accused of terrorizing Southeast side motorists, were named in true bills by the Cook County grand jury on robbery charges. Harold Fleeger, Vernon Haynes, Owen Enos, and Gerald Fleeger were arrested last Sunday. Police say the gang tied victims and hid them in car trunks after robberies, with 22 victims identifying the suspects at a showup. Detected through army deserter leads, the case involves about 400 holdups netting $6,000 to $8,000. Gerald Fleeger confessed participation in one robbery.
