Mayor Edward J. Kelly and Board of Education officials spoke. open house followed 9:30 to 10:30. Florence White Williams, Hyde Park alumna artist, will exhibit in the new social room.
Alderman Thomas J. Daley bystoically attended the city council meeting after a brief illness and urged creation of a survey board of city and sanitary district engineers. The board would investigate flooded subways in Chicago and conduct surveys. Reports from the Chicago Park District say the new pedestrian bridge at 67th Street and South Shore is near completion.
Ludwig D. Schreiber of 6935 Paxton Bye is chosen as city clerk candidate and Kelly running mate in the Democratic primary on February 28. Thomas Gordon of 1817 N Hermit Lageave is named city treasurer candidate. The announcement coincides with the dedication of All-Chicago Committee for the Re Election of Mayor Kelly at the Conway building.
Funeral services were held for Cyril J Trainor 72 18 Coles Ave at St Philip Neri Church 2100 E 72nd St with burial at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. The 52 year old Railway Express agent in the central manufacturing district died Saturday night at Mercy hospital after a year long illness. He was born on the South Side and lived there all his life. Survived by his mother Mrs Nellie Trainor two sisters Sister Mary Petronilla and Mrs Loretta Anderson two brothers Rev H S Trainor and Edward V Trainor. He never married. He was a member of Calumet council Knights of Columbus and the Lake Shore Athletic club.
William Duhart an 18 year old Negro youth of 5612 Lafayette avenue stood trial in Boys court for burglary at 7556 Cottage Grove avenue. Judge Hermes placed him on probation for a year after most of the 190 dollars loot was recovered and the offense was his first. An accomplice is still at large and the money was traced through canceled orders.
More than 700 students finish at Hyde Park, Hirsch, and Bowen high schools with Hirsch hosting next Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Calumet auditorium due to space. A W Clevenger will give the address, Marejorie Weishaus the valedictory, and Arthur M Nicholson to present diplomas.
Capt. Patrick Brady of the Grand Crossing police reports no strong-arm robberies in the Southeast community for nearly two weeks. He credits heightened police vigilance for driving the marauders away and seeks public help to apprehend the two suspects linked to about 10 robberies since last October 29. Victims suffered serious injuries in several attacks. Residents are urged to report suspicious activity on dark streets.
John Batham, supervisor of Jackson Park, reports the annual Ice Carnival co sponsored by the park and South East Legion posts is postponed due to poor weather from Sunday January 29. If weather fails again, the carnival will be canceled. Official entry blanks available at the park golf shelter 63rd St. east of Stony Island Ave. Entries must be on official forms. The events are for novices only.
