The hazard study of the Illinois Central South Chicago branch is nearly done with fieldwork finished and a report due in two weeks. Joseph Wright will submit fencing cost estimates for the street level right of way from 7th Street and Dorchester to 1st Street and Exchange. Alderman Daley requested the survey to curb hazards after more than 50 crossings were inspected. Two Southeast residents were killed in recent incidents along the line.
Homer L. Davenport, prominent Woodlawn attorney, was installed as president of the Woodlawn Business Men's association during a Tuesday noon ceremony at the Hayes hotel. Mac Shaw presided as toastmaster and installing officer. Directors named include Dr. G. G. Knapp James M. Earle Douglas Hamer Sam D. Karmen. Hold-over directors are George W. Webster and Leo Myers. Alderman John F. Healy announces actions to improve visibility at key intersections in the 6th Ward after a ward survey. Changes include repositioning news stands at 67th Street and Woodlawn Avenue, converting Harper Avenue between 63rd and 64th Streets to one way, and removing parking on the east side of Blackstone Avenue.

The Grand Crossing Community Aid center held its opening Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the park fieldhouse at 77th Street and Ingleside Avenue, distributing clothing, shoes and bedding to needy children. President Mrs. Daniel Foreman said the center will be open every Tuesday and Friday afternoon during winter, with clothing distributed through Southeast teachers and principals and center committee members. Organized last year by Mrs. Foreman and Capt. Patrick Brady of the Grand Crossing police, the center had conducted a drive for clothes and shoes and solicited merchants to repair and clean items.
If plans materialize, four major candidates for mayor will share a platform in Southeast Chicago. The event is being organized by the South East Chicago council of the Little Business Men's League of America, with invitations sent to all candidates and a meeting at the Grand Crossing Masonic temple slated for 8 p.m. Also noted are independent bid by A. L. Cronin for 6th ward alderman and recent Republican precinct actions naming Roy N. Lesch as standard bearer, with further citywide campaign plans discussed for the next week.

Police from Grand Crossing and Woodlawn pressed a large man-hunt against two armed bandits who attacked three Southeast residents within 17 hours, injuring two. Victims include Francis Purdy 58, Samuel Buckner 68, and Carl Carlson 52. Purdy was beaten and robbed leaving the Loop area. Buckner, a Hebrew tutor, was struck, robbed of $13, and left semi-conscious. Both captains ordered extra officers and squads in South Shore as arrests continue.
Joseph Burns long time Southeast resident and former Swift and Company general superintendent died Saturday at 76. He retired in 1931 after a career spanning St Paul and Chicago plants. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 pm in Lain and Sons chapel. Burial in Oak Woods cemetery. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
