Depositors of Chatfield Trust and Savings Bank at 7936 Cottage Grove Ave received checks last Thursday for a 14.7 percent dividend amounting to 38 978.66. Edward J. Barrett, state auditor, says this is the sixth and final dividend. Total payouts reach 62.2 percent of deposits including last week. Additional payments include 7 500 to bills payable and 9 087.18 to preferred creditors. Barrett notes most of last week’s dividend arose from liquidation with the remainder from the stockholders liability suit receiver. New Rhodes Community Club officers are to be installed at Liberty Hall tonight at 8. John P. Costello is president. others include E. B. Smith, George T. Vallee, B. D. Cutler, Rudolph Albrecht, and Philip Sala.
Tom Jones aged 65 retires on January 1 and will receive 25.75 dollars monthly from February 1 for life, his wife also 65 gets 12.88 dollars monthly. Together they will receive 38.63 dollars monthly. About 912000 people will begin receiving payments this year as Uncle Sam launches the old age and survivors insurance program. Woodlawn police hunted four youths believed to be 17 or 18 after two robberies in a half hour early Tuesday. The first victim, Max Volk, was robbed of 348 in cash and his watch after they surrounded his car at 2141 EB 67th Street. The bandits then took his car and struck a second victim, William Ryan, at 63rd Street and South Park Avenue, stealing 1 from him.
Alderman Arthur G. Lindell proposes opening Michigan Avenue at 63rd Street by building a subway under three railroads the Pennsylvania Nickel Plate and Michigan Central to create a continuous thoroughfare from the Loop to 127th Street. A resolution is planned for City Council with fellow Aldermen Murphy Sheridan Smith and Duffy backing the move.

East 63rd street will glow with a modern lighting system after a three year campaign. A ceremonial switch on Thursday night will mark the street’s illumination with public officials and civic leaders present. Two University of Chicago runners will light the path as they sprint to the reviewing stand, then hand torches to the Spin t of Light, Isabel Clerk, who will light the final switch. The event includes Mayor Kelly and other city and transit leaders, plus Woodlawn Business Men’s Association and E 63rd street council members attending in force.
