Newsstand Operator Struck By Bus, Killed
George McGrath, 59, operator of a newsstand, was struck and killed by a CTA bus at E 63rd Street and S Stony Island Avenue. He alighted from the bus, walked around the rear, and started to cross as the bus swung from the curb. The driver stopped after hearing a thump and found him.

Relief From Dump Odor Nears With City Incinerator Bid
Charles B. Johnson and Son submitted the lowest bid of 5 415 800 for constructing a refuse incinerator at East 103rd Street and South Doty Avenue. The six bids ranged to 5 620 626 from James McHugh Construction Company, with wards awaiting 60 days of analysis by City Engineer Paul Gerhardt before main contract award.
