The Chicago Park District announces new parks and improvements across the city for 1957 including Stony Island park at E 87th St and S Jeffery Blvd. Projects started in 1956 cover nine parks with new fieldhouses pools and lighting plus paving on Michigan Blvd and Lake Shore Drive using a planning machine to smooth surfaces. President James H. Gately expresses satisfaction and optimism for 1957.

Fire damages two car garage at O F Motor City site
At 3 17 p m Friday a fire swept a rear lot garage used as a reconditioning shop for second hand cars at 7856 S Stony Island Ave causing about 500 dollars in damage. The Nineteenth Battalion attributed the blaze to an overheated oil stove.

Greatest Auto Show Opens At Amphitheater Saturday
The Chicago Automobile Show begins Saturday January 5 at the International Amphitheatre. It runs through January 13 with 290000 square feet of exhibits and more than 260 cars and trucks on display. Admission is 90 cents for adults and 45 cents for children, with special days for city areas and free Motorevue stage shows twice daily. Mayor Daley opens the event with a two hour WGN telecast and presents $700 in Savings Bond awards.

Blaze Drives 23 From Homes in Freezing Night
In near zero weather at 1 08 a m a fire at 3243 E Qist St spread to 3247 E Qist St. Four engine companies fought the blaze causing about 1000 dollars damage to each building. No injuries reported. Officials suspect an overheated furnace started it. The 23 displaced residents found shelter with friends and neighbors.
