Veteran Jones retires after thirty years with Commonwealth Edison
William T. Jones of 6106 University Avenue ends a 30 year career at Commonwealth Edison last Thursday. A Texas A and M electrical engineering graduate, he joined as an apprentice substation operator in 1915 and rose to senior testing engineer after serving with Army Engineers in World War I. Housing Council Seeks Funds for City Rat Proofing Plan
The Chicago Housing Council seeks city funds to fund a rat control program covering the entire city. Byron C. Sharpe estimates the annual rat cost at 80 million dollars, with each rat consuming food and causing damage equal to ten times that amount. The group plans a federal aid request to the U S Public Health Service for a block by block rat proofing survey and work, starting with closing holes in drains, doors, windows, vents, and trash cans. The effort targets the Near South Side and the area west of the Loop, aiming to reduce typhus risk from rat bites and migration.

Brookline Church to Burn Mortgage Sunday

Men to be arraigned in Criminal Court today
James Fair aged 32 and his brother William aged 28, both of 312 East 47th street, Negroes, were arrested by Woodlawn police on December 23 as they fled a tavern at 425 East 63rd Street shortly after 1 AM after a robbery. They will be arraigned before Judge Harold G. Ward.

Captain Gerald Keenan Dies in War After Missing at Sea
Captain Gerald Keenan 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin S Keen an, was officially declared dead December 1 after being missing since February 27, 1942. He served seven years as a fighter pilot and was in command aboard the Langley before transfer to the Edcel destroyer, which later disappeared at sea. A requiem high mass was held at St. Francis de Paula church.

Southtown Airport Handles 268 Daily Flights Amid Growth Plans
Southtown airport at 63rd Street and Cicero Avenue operates 268 scheduled flights daily with about 5 000 passengers. Nine airlines run the routes from a field built for 15 million dollars, larger than LaGuardia’s current capacity. Murder Trial Delayed in Slaying of Shirley Stone
Daniel Hurley, 19 year old merchant seaman of Clayton Missouri, faces trial in Criminal court for fatally beating Shirley Stone, 28, a drug store clerk.
