Ethel Dole aged about 50s died Christmas day at Chicago Memorial Hospital from pneumonia. She taught general science at Fenger High Burnside branch for five years and served 23 years in the Chicago public schools. She was active in First Presbyterian church and women's Bible class. Born Manteno Illinois she studied at Illinois State Normal Normal University and earned degrees from the University of Illinois and Columbia University. She was a member of Omicron Nu and worked as a conservation agent under Hoover in World War I. Funeral services were held last Saturday.

J E Smiley a Woodlawn resident died last Sunday at 66 from a heart ailment in Woodlawn hospital. He was active at Woodlawn Methodist Church where he served as trustee and taught youth. Surviving are his widow two sons William and Joseph and two daughters Elizabeth and Mrs H G McCoy.

Refugee youth killed in Florida crash mourned in Chicago
Horst Altman a Breslau refugee, 19, died when his car collided head on near West Palm Beach. Burial in Waldheim after funeral at 4224 W Roosevelt Rd. He had lived with his parents and siblings since coming to the United States three years ago. He was Hyde Park High School graduate and an Ahneis Institute student working as a cabinet maker. In a separate crash, Agnes L Babcock, 46, supervisor at the Board of Education center, suffered concussion and shock after a collision at 70th St and Dorchester Ave. driver Joseph Sulek, 37, escaped injury. Babcock hospital condition improved yesterday.
