L. D. Crabtree will speak and display his collection of care glass ware at a meeting of Woman's Society of Christian Service at 1 30.
A Dorcas circle luncheon is scheduled for next Thursday at 12 45 p m in St John Methodist church located at 74th street and Jeffery avenue.
Eleanor Thompson will be installed as president of the Grand Crossing-Chatham Chamber of Commerce at the silver anniversary dinner. The event at the South Side Swedish Club includes toastmaster Alderman Roy E. Olin and remarks by James Phillips. Officers to be installed include Arthur Rothschild and Bud Singman, with entertainment and films of Woodlawn and Grand Crossing.
Arthur S. Flemming chairman of the United States Civil Service commission will lecture at Bryn Mawr Community Church 7000 Jeffery Ave at 7 45 pm Sunday. His talk titled Lukewarmness A Highway That Leads to Destruction discusses national governance and policy. He serves on multiple commissions and trustees several universities.
Rabbi Louis L Mann of the Chicago Sinai congregation will discuss Obstacles to Brotherhood and How to Overcome Them at a Brotherhood rally. The event is at 8 pm Tuesday in Bryn Mawr Elementary School 7355 Jeffery Ave with students from Bryn Mawr Bradley McCosh and O Keeffe schools. It is sponsored by the South Shore Good Will council and the Coordinating council of District Eight of Chicago Public Elementary schools.
The League of Women Voters of Woodlawn will meet at 8 pm Monday in the First Presbyterian church at 64th Street and Kimbark to hear Mrs Edmund G Pabst speak on How Important Are Our Party Committeemen Mrs E Thornton chairs the event at 861 East 63rd Place.
Ernest G. Shinner, president of E. G. Shinner and Company, wholesale and retail meat dealers, was elected president of South Shore National Bank at a recent board meeting. He resides at 6845 Constance Ave. (Story on Page 1.)
Members of the Woodlawn post of the American Legion will hold a meeting at 8 30 p m Monday in post headquarters located at 6308 Woodlawn Ave.
The South Shore circle of Daughters of Isabella will meet at 8 p.m. Monday in the Caravel club at 7515 Yates Ave to view Yellowstone park movies. Mrs Henrietta McArdle, 8020 Crandon Ave, is the program chairman.
The Woman's auxiliary of the South Shore YMCA will hold a dessert luncheon at 8 pm in the Y headquarters at 2320 E 75th St. Mrs. Frank W. Mizek is listed as a contact.
A motion picture titled Science Spins a Yarn will be shown with community singing led by program chairman Mrs Richard Eddy of 7337 Blackstone Ave. The event aims to engage local residents in an evening of entertainment and shared songs.
During Lent weekday masses at St Cyril Church, 6413 Dante Ave, are set for 6, 6 30, 7, 7 15 and am. Sunday masses run 6, 7 30, 9, 10, 11, 11 30 and 12 15 pm. The boys choir will sing at 11 am and 12 15 pm masses. Each Sunday mass will feature a dialogue.
The Rev. John Overend will lead the Stations of the Cross at 2 30 p m at St Mary church and a preaching service is scheduled for 8 p m this Friday. The schedule applies to Lent with midweek events next Wednesday.
