Hirsch Students Honor Two Heroes in War Homecoming
More than 1,500 Hirsch high school students and civic leaders joined a parade from 77th Street and Ingleside to the Rhodes theater for a homecoming and war bond rally honoring Lt. Charles F. Jones and Coxswain Walter Reedy. Jones spoke after dignitaries and war officials, as music filled the program. Reedy, a 1940 Hirsch graduate, survived a submarine torpedoing in the Atlantic and received an honorable medical discharge after 11 months in a naval hospital.

Retired Machinist John Son Dies From Traffic Injuries
Funeral services were held in Paxton for John Son 78 who died Friday in Jackson Park hospital from injuries suffered when struck by a car at the intersection of 70th Street and Dorchester Avenue while returning home after visiting a friend. The driver was Robert Smith 7626 Dante Avenue. A coroner's jury will investigate the death at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Woodlawn police station.

Lt Daniel O'Shea 21, of 1506 E. Tardal, died in a P-47 crash over Upton Field New York. A 9:30 a.m. service will be held at St. Lawrence church Dorchester Ave with Rev Patrick O'Shea officiating. Burial at St. Mary Cemetery. He enlisted after Pearl Harbor and served nearly two years in the Army Air Forces.
