A two part blaze hit a three story building at 9127 S Commercial Ave. The elderly roomer Fred Betterman aged 70 died from smoke poisoning after being trapped on the upper floor. The first floor housed Robbins Store for Men and the total damage was estimated at 7000 dollars.

Rooney was elected to succeed Ralph M. Goren as vice president professional. The executive, advisory, and nominating committees were named, led by chairman John Roach.
Members of the Arthur Dixon Parent-Teacher Association urge the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers to pass adequate and enforced legislation for child protection. Reacting to the Robinson woods triple slaying and rising attacks on youths, they call for mandatory psychiatric treatment for offenders and funding for that cure, warning current sentences do not deter repeat offenses. The resolution, prepared by Mrs. George T. Stears, was sent to ICPT leaders and the Chicago Region PTA for convention consideration.
A group of contestants will compete Friday night December 16 at the Palmer House for Miss Southeast. The winner advances to the 48th Chicago Automobile Show January 7 to 15 at the International Amphitheatre and will appear in the Motorevue pageant. Judging starts at 7 p.m. with officials from the Chicago Auto Trade Association and others.
