Wilson J. Fish, a 71 year old retired businessman of 6140 St. Lawrence Ave, is expected to appear before a grand jury next Monday on four counts of murder. He is charged with shooting his wife Elizabeth, 69, after a quarrel at his sister in law Emma Killian’s apartment. Killian was wounded in the hand during the struggle. A coroner's jury at the inquest recommended holding Fish for murder.
Chicago relief administration begins using 2000 relief workers as school crossing guards citywide. About 89 guards will cover hazardous intersections in Woodlawn and Grand Crossing, with 53 already on duty and 20 in Woodlawn. More guards join in weeks.
The South Shore Community Council formally opposes renewing Rainbow park trailer camp Tibot and the Lake license at its last Thursday meeting in the South Shore View hotel. President S. V. Banksiey led the opposition urging Alderman Daley to block renewal and urged the council to act before expiration this month. The group also approved routing changes making 73rd street and Exchange the east terminal for 71st street lines, increasing transfer options for riders. It endorsed the Alliance of Business and Professional Women of Chicago plan to keep city institutions open some evenings for workers.
The Grand Crossing Community Aid center in Grand Crossing park fieldhouse near 76th Street and Ingleside conducts its annual Winter drive to collect discarded clothing and shoes for Southeast side children. Director Mrs. Daniel Foreman says goods are donated, cleaned, and distributed, with 20 shoes repaired by WPA project cobblers. Center hours are Tuesdays and Fridays 2 to 4 pm. children bring a note from a teacher, adults a relief worker letter.
Four collisions on the Southeast side within hours claim two lives and injure three others. The dead include Michael Graham 80 and Joseph Szenouskis 44. A fuel truck explosion at 95th street and Jeffery avenue caused dramatic flames and minor injuries to others. A second truck crash near 68th Street and South Chicago Avenue involved a Freer Motor Transport tractor trailer with both drivers uninjured.
Judge Francis J. Borrelli of the Municipal court will address the Rhodes Community club in Tuley park fieldhouse at 90th St and St. Lawrence. The December round table event includes members who joined the Rhodes club this month as guests of honor.
