Coroner's Jury Rules Death Accidental in Train Collision
A coroner's jury ruled the death of Harry W. Long aaccidental after an inquest. Long 42 a brakeman for New York Central was killed by a southbound Illinois Central suburban train at 63rd street and Dorchester avenue early Tuesday. Witness Harry Swager testified Long jumped from the northbound platform and reached toward the southbound side as the warning bell rang. Funeral services will be held in Fort Wayne. Survived by three sisters Mrs Garnet E Babcock Mrs John Harrington and Mrs Kenneth Koch.

South Shore YMCA launches $20 000 fund drive
A 1949 campaign to raise twenty thousand dollars to support South Shore YMCA operations was announced at a St John Methodist church dinner. Co chairs O H Baehler and J Wesley Blades head seven divisions with over two hundred volunteers. Funds support Indian Guide tribes clubs and youth programs plus building plans for a two story permanent facility at first street and Bennett avenue to house seven recreation rooms a dark room and offices.

Machinist 74 Killed by Hit and Run Driver
Detectives sought the driver of an auto that struck and fatally injured Samuel Colbech 74 as he crossed 63rd Street and Kenwood Avenue Tuesday. Colbech a machinist for the University of Chicago was taken to Billings Hospital where he died shortly after. A witness provided the license plate number of the fleeing vehicle.

Wounded Man Held as Suspect in Hotel Holdup

Assailant Seizes Mother in Alley Threatening Baby
Police hunt a 26 year old mother and her three month old son after an attacker seized them near 69th street and Anthony Ave promising to kill the infant if she resisted. A 41 year old father of three Daniel Koeher was seriously hurt when an elevator fell six feet while he helped install it at 950 West 69th Street. Koeher suffered possible broken jaw skull fracture and several broken ribs. John Lennon 47 also injured back while aiding rescue. Fire Department provided first aid before Koeher was rushed to Evangelical Hospital.
