Public housing and rent control blasted as socialists
Henry Spaulding and Sand ford representative on the Cook County Rent Advisory board condemned public housing and rent control as tools to socialize the United States. He warned that public housing groups seek to stagnate private enterprise and expand rent control to justify more public housing. A Milwaukee speaker cited limited rent increases after decontrol, while Spaulding assailed the Chicago Housing Authority and charged politicians use housing as a political football. John Ducey was named by Spaulding as pushing the “public interest” line in housing policy.
