The Public Works Department awarded a contract for a new four lane street about 60 feet wide. Oscar Hewitt, Public Works Commissioner, said construction will start within two weeks after petition pressure from Southeast Side improvement groups and Central Council of Polish Organizations.

Summers celebrate Easter births pair at St Lawrence
The Hichard Sommers family on UT St Lawrence Ave marked a four way Easter Sunday birth day. Twins Jean Mare and Thomas Stephen arrived for Mrs Sommers at the Little Company of Mary hospital within three minutes of each other. Jean Marie weighed five pounds 11 ounces while Thomas weighed seven pounds seven ounces. Their sister Hileen was born Easter day last year. The Summers also have a three year old Richard James.

Youth Week to Feature Citywide Demonstrations
About one million children will join special demonstrations May 12 through 18 as Chicago marks its 25th Youth Week. Activities span schools parks playgrounds and settlement houses with Ruth H Dennis winning 80 cents for a telephone quiz answer. Southeast Sider Dies at 75 After Long Service
James McCarthy aged 75, longtime county auditor clerk and 42 year W F McLaughlin Coffee Company employee, died of a heart attack at his home on Ellis Avenue. Born in Ireland, he moved to Chicago at 15 and lived on the Southeast Side. Survived by his widow Mary two sons Raymond and James and Jerome and daughter Marie Quinliven. Funeral at St Thomas the Apostle Church on 55th and Kimball. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Street Cars Trap Man Crushes Both Legs
Anthony Rauche a 53 year old laborer at 1715 W 61st st was in fair condition after the amputation of his left leg. He was crushed when trapped by a hie car between two work cars at 67th st and Stony Island ave while sitting with legs over a salt crate loaded trailer. The trailer jumped the track as the work car turned south and the tie bar between cars crushed his leg. He was taken to Illinois Central hospital for treatment.

City Asked To Raise 13 Million
Southeast side volunteers will lead a drive to raise 1.5 million for remodeling and rebuilding Salvation Army Chicago facilities. A 6 p.m. Stevens Hotel dinner opens the campaign with 34 volunteers from wards 5, 1 1 and 10, and church leaders will promote the effort on Salvation Army Sunday in South town.

Fred George of 449 W 64th St was robbed Monday night by a passenger who held a gun to his head and demanded money. George picked up the man at 67th Street and Stony Island Avenue, drove to 69th Street and Harper Avenue, where the robber fled with $820.
