Donnelly remained in critical condition with a fractured skull. Barnes was treated at Jackson Park Hospital for a broken right leg and multiple bruises. The South Shore Chamber of Commerce led a campaign to depress IC tracks, seeking federal funds to reduce hazards along the line.
Lorimer Memorial Baptist church marks fifty years since its 1889 Langley Avenue beginnings. The anniversary week features a historical pageant, services led by Rev I Cedric Peterson and Rev Cecil G Osborne, a dinner with Rev Fred Codd as speaker, a candlelight communion, and an all Baptist night. The church now has about 800 members and has grown steadily since 1912.
The Chicago Recreation Commission forms a new joint committee on recreation and city plan to study requests for park and playground facilities. Police seek four daring daylight bandits who robbed a currency exchange at 1505 Cottage Grove last Thursday morning, stealing 3200 dollars. They beat cashier Theresa Peters 39, of 9322 Luella Ave, and fled in a waiting car after taking 3000 from the money bag and 200 from the cash register. The license plate was stolen. Peters was treated at Jackson Park hospital for head and neck injuries. Police suspect advance planning.
Judge John C Lewe granted an injunction restraining owners at 6217 19 South Park from further violations of Washington Park subdivision restrictive agreements. A mandatory injunction orders tenants to vacate within 60 days. Woodlawn Property Owners league says the ruling will protect South Side property owners and predicts more similar decisions. Fred J Smith and Margaret I Brown sought the injunction. Charles A Churan represented the plaintiffs.
South Shore Chamber of Commerce hosts its monthly luncheon at 7330 Ridgeland Ave in the South Side Swedish Club. A film titled It's Up to You about new business ideas will be shown, and J Leslie Rosenblum urged members to attend, saying the meeting would be time well spent.
Chicago Mayor backs a Southeast Side park on the 76th and Jeffery boundary. Delegation led by Edward Donnellan urges park district funding with 25 resolutions and over 5000 signatures. Aldermen Daley and Olin support the effort as do multiple ward Democratic and Republican leaders.
Congressman McKeough won a decisive victory in the district primary, tallying more than twice his rivals Edward Garrity and Joseph Frank. Moynihan led the Republican field in the Second district with Alderman Lindell as closest rival, while Schnackenberg and Nel son secured nominations in the 13th district. Committeeman battles highlighted ward clashes as Gerds defeated Andalman and Smith topped Cressy. Democrats ran unopposed in several committees.
