Carl W. Hunding vice-president of Hunding Dairy died after a two week illness of heart disease. He was 41 and will be buried at Oak Woods after funeral services at Windsor Park Evangelical Lutheran Church. He had just been named president of the Associated Milk Dealers. Survived by widow Esther and four children, plus his father Bahne N. Hunding and siblings.
Three men were injured when scaffolding broke loose at 6344 Evans Street and toppled 25 feet to the sidewalk. Herschel Littell, 22, suffered a fractured back and faces months in hospital. George Schalong, 26, of 11820 La Salle Street, broke an ankle and was bruised. Kermit Moses, 26, of 306 West 111th Street, had abrasions and scratches. They were treated at Woodlawn Hospital. Littell and Schalong remained hospitalized while Moses was released after initial care.
The South Shore Walther League Zone hosts its third annual fellowship banquet Saturday evening at the Hotel Windermere East located at 1642 E. 36th St. William F. Wetherman, executive secretary of the International Walther League, will speak. William Zeller, president of the Northern Illinois district, will MC and zone members provide entertainment.
Clem O Barski 30 and two companions Ray Ambrose 37 Henry Rieck 65 all three firemen from Engine Company No. 63 died Tuesday night when their auto collided with another vehicle near 55th Street Pulaski Road. The other occupants of the other car survived with minor injuries. An inquest was continued to April 29 in the County morgue.
Robert J. O'Donnell of 2015 E. 71st St. was named general chairman to replace B. J. Ryan as head of the South Shore Red Cross committee. James B. Forgan announced a four-division reorganization with new vice-chairs for each district and a roll call chair for the annual campaign.
Hyde Park High School will stage its annual Spring music festival tomorrow evening at the school auditorium 6220 Stony Island Ave with 500 students performing. Six musical groups plus four soloists appear under conductors Capt Joseph William Fagan and Katherine M Filey with accompanists led by Mrs Daniel W McFall and Mrs Josephine Lee.
The Southeast side prepares for Tuesday's primary with a flurry of speeches and last minute charges as voters decide ward committeemen for wards six seven eight and ten and nominate representatives for the 13th senatorial district and the Second Congressional district. Both parties list full slates for governor U S senator and a wide range of state and local offices. Hershey vs Stelle divides the Democrats with claims of statewide margins while Republicans forecast varied downstate and Cook County results. Hershey spoke at Liberty Hall urging labor, business and farmers receive equal representation.
Shirley Jean Strance, newborn daughter of Mel and Mrs Strance, weighs seven pounds nine ounces and is welcomed by the Eighth Ward Republicans. The baby, born at Minos Central hospital, will be eligible to vote in the Spring of 19 1. Her father, Mel Strance, serves as secretary to Alderman Roy E. Olin and is an officer in the 8th Ward Regular Republican organization.
A coalition of civic groups will visit Mayor Kelly next Monday at 3 p.m. to urge approval of a new park and fieldhouse at 76th street and Jeffery Avenue. Petitions signed by about 5 000 residents will accompany the delegation.
Prominent Chicago attorney and World War veteran Emmet PF Byrne, born 1796 in Chicago, longtime lawyer and former assistant corporation counsel, is a Republican candidate for Congress from the Second District. He campaigns on a five point program, highlights civic involvement, and resides on Drexel Avenue with his wife and six children.
Police search intensified for two men believed behind a pair of strong arm robberies in Grand Crossing. Victims Mrs. Liluan Shaw 7833 Evans and Richard Doherty 70 were attacked within a half hour near Cottage Grove and 74th streets. Shaw was choked and robbed of two diamond rings valued at 15. Doherty, struck and robbed of $5, later found near the alley between Stony Island and Blackstone.
Carl G Buck, chairman of the grade crossing committee, will report on Tuesday’s conference with engineers from the Nanos Commerce commission. The South Area council met at the Chicago Beach hotel to seek a solution to hazards at grade crossings on the South side. Roy F Healy, chairman, will present at today’s council meeting, a clearing house for safety and traffic matters on the South side.
A well dressed woman and her male companion robbed Herbert Smith, store proprietor at 1902 E Tard St, after a late Saturday purchase. The pair obtained $25 as the man brandished a revolver and ordered the cash register opened. Both suspects described as in their late 20s.
